PS3: error while moving game to new location

This post is only for people using a PS3 and encountering the mentioned error when using Multiman or Rogero.

I use Multiman and Rogero as game managers on my jailbroken PS3. Yesterday when launching a game with Multiman it threw "error occurred while moving game to new location" at me with every game.

I also tried Rogero 8.2 and that gave me "error occurred while mounting the games folder"...

I Googled a while and tried a couple of things. My external USB contained a PS3_GAME folder in the root. I think that was left when Multiman emulated it as a blu-ray? Anyway: after deleting it, the error went away and i was able to launch games again (found that solution here).

Before that i also connected the external USB HD to a Windows PC and checked the games folders: i read somewhere those folders shouldn't be Read Only (i have no idea why they somehow would be flagged Read Only but checked it anyway).

Top Gear aflevering, of computerspel?

In sommige stukken van deze trailer van de nieuwe PlayStation3 race-topper Gran Turismo 5 is bijna niet meer te zien of het nu echte film is (IRL, In Real Life) of 'getekend' door een computer. Wow. Dat vind ik nu kunst ;-). (kijk evt vanaf ca 38 seconden)

All PS3Jailbreak clones

(Dutch below) People with a PS3 wanting to backup their games, save their costly discs and playing from a disc copy of the game, AND lucky enough to have firmware 3.41 or lower, can now use so called jailbreak devices to do just that. But what solutions are available? I did not find a complete list, so i decided to make it. Miss any solution? Please let me know!

(Update 2011: a currently better option is to install custom firmware (CFW, as opposed to original firmware, OFW). Google for KMEAW 3.55; it offers the advantages of a dongle, without having to buy a dongle :-)).

- PSFree / PSFreedom for many devices like the TI84, Android (HTC), Nokia and iPhone
- PS3 E3 Card Reader
- PS3 Yes
- PS3Zpack
- PS3 Stinger
- PS3 Key
- P3Go
- x3 jailbreak (old name) / X3Max (new name), and a review.
- PS Samurai
- PS3 USB Jailbreak adapter (and a simple / short 'review')
- P3 Hub
- Neo / Neo II
- USB Break
- PS3 Break (small simple review of the v1.1: also read the replies (as with every review))
- PS3 AVR / Tiny AVR
- PS Free
- PS3 Liberator
- Eclips3
- AmazeBreak
- PS Jailbreak (is this PSJailbreak2 an improved version, or a copycat, or ...)

Related info:
- Some info on the mentioned devices, among which is a warning to try and get an upgradable device
- it al began with George Hotz (GeoHot) finding a hole, which was exploited by others, and turned into the 1st PS3 jailbreak device, the PSJailbreak
- on a Dutch website they also mentioned pricing for people who order large numbers. Quite interesting: 1 PS3Key: 37.5 euro/each. 10 PS3Key: 25 euro. 100 PS3Key: 15 euro/each.

A person with username KaKaRoTo is a major developer in this area.

(Dutch)
Op deze pagina zet ik op een rij welke oplossingen ik ken/vond om de PS3 te jailbreaken ( 'ombouwen' ) en het mogelijk te maken kopieën van spellen (die je uiteraard hoort te hebben gekocht) te spelen.

Streaming HD with OSX

I downloaded my first HD movie on my OSX Mac with SABnzbd+, and it appeared to be in PS3 format. I wondered how i could stream it to my Xbox360 to watch it on my TV, or even just play it on my Mac, and found this link mentioning some promissing solutions:

Boxee (worked best for me at least being able to view the PS3 video on the Mac, i haven't been able to stream it to the TV or 360. Perculiar: you use your userid/password you created during online signup to login to the local client).

I also tried: Plex, XBMC, Perian, MPlayer and VLC.

Michel pointed me to Twonky and EyeConnect. Not free. And Twonky is Windows only. Since i hadn't found a better free solution, I gave EyeConnect a try.

EyeConnect didn't stream to the Xbox. EyeConnect on my Mac detected the Xbox on the LAN, but the Xbox didn't detect the Mac/EyeConnect. Elgato, makers of EyeConnect clarified: "The Xbox 360 does not use UPnP AV to discover content over the network. It uses a separate, Windows-based standard. It can connect using the Media Center on a PC, or via specialized Mac software like Connect360. EyeConnect is solely an UPnP AV server - the Xbox 360 does not use that format, so it won't work with EyeConnect. Many other devices do use UPnP AV (DLNA), like the PlayStation 3".

So i tried Connect360. 1st i ran into an error when starting Connect360: "A required port appears to be in use, please free ports 1900 and/or 9335 if you wish to use Connect360". On the website it said it might be in conflict with EyeConnect. Tried to deinstall that: still the error. Opened up terminal and looked what was using port 1900 (through the command "sudo lsof -i :1900"): EyeConnect! Found a de-install-script, ran it: still the error. Started Activity Monitor, killed EyeConnect-processes: Connect360 started! Now both the Mac and the Xbox360 'saw' eachother, but Connect360 only looks in the iTunes folder(s). My movie was in a different location. I tried to add the movie to iTunes, but iTunes did not report being unable to add it to the library AND did not add it. Don't talk to me about the Apple being super intuitive all the time: it has LOTS of non intuitive elements!

Anyway, looking for another solution, i found Rivet. Gave THAT a try. And YES, it allowed me to specify another location. BUT: only at this point i found out the Xbox360 doesn't play this movie format :-). No MPG-support on Xbox360. Thank you Microsoft!

How much does a PS3 cost - wattage wise?

I wondered whether the 40GB PS3 at 399 euro's is a better deal than a 499 euro's 60GB PS3 with 2 controllers and 2 games. It seems like a no brainer, but it isn't when you start wondering about things like: did Sony upgrade components in the newer PS3 (do you get better technology)? Will future firmware upgrades work on both models? Will the fact the 60GB-model runs hotter mean it has a shorter life span? And what are the extra cost of the more power hungry 60GB model, that uses 200 Watt instead of the 135 Watt the new 40GB model consumes.

Accoording to this website, a 200 Watt appliance, used 2 hours 180 days a year, currently would cost 16 euro's, while a 135 Watt machine would cost 11 euro . But energy cost will rise? And should i also think about the environment. The 60GB-model does have backward compatibility. But the fact you get 2 nice games AND an extra controller for 100 euro's make me consider the 60GB model: the BC is a nice extra.

By the way: did you know Consoles Worldwide Use 16 Billion Kilowatt Hours per Year?!

PS3 or Xbox360?

Every time i'm close to a store where they sell either the Xbox360 or PS3, i have this urge to walk in. Both consoles have awesome looking games:

. Bol.com has this nice Xbox360-pack where you get 3 top games with the console. That made me look into the consoles again. What are the models currently sold, what are the differences. And then you read about this upcoming 65nm technology, make the consoles both cheaper, operate at a lower temp, and thus needing less cooling and being quieter (Sony confirmed the 40GB-model incorporates 65nm technology). I also wondered why these next-gen consoles don't work as a PVR: it only needs an (optional?) tuner. I guess the consoles have enough power and harddrive capacity to act as a PVR?! There are rumors, in both camps.

(update feb 2008: Sony has launched PlayTV in the UK, see vid below, very cool, as you're able to control your PS3 over the internet via a PSP, and watch (even live tv) video... play some games)

(continue original item)
Also about IP TV (TV over the internet). Should i wait for the next models, consuming maybe a third less energy? Or is this just the tech-typical-if-you-want-to-wait-for-the-next-model-you-can-wait-forever deadlock? Then i saw this cool video of the PS3 eye-toy. And some great screenshots... Though choice, but i still think my favorite next-gen console (apart from the Wii, which i do have and love but graphically is no match to the Xbox360 and PS3) is the PS3, the 40GB-model!

A lot of people don't know or forget what it takes to make a new generation console game. This short video has some info on the new PS3 game Heavenly Swords: it takes an orchestra, actors in funny suits, designers, programmers .... 140+ people on this 5 year production! I love the (honest/genuine looking ;-)) enthousiasm of the interviewed people.

Somehow i'm more attracted to the Playstation 3 (PS3) than to the Xbox 360. I just stumbled upon this video showing how the Playstation Home environment might look like, and this strenghtens my feeling about the PS3. Sure, it's like Second Life/Habbo and 3d environments alike, but being able to enter that on your couch does seem nice :-)

No idea about what games will be available on the PS3? Watch this compilation at Gameplay (click on the small "Playstation 3: gameplay montage"-picture in the lower part of the screen). Respect to everybody working on awesome looking games like in that clip!
