Personally I find the concept of Kiva very appealing. Mainly because of the transparancy - you see where the money goes and what it is spend on. Although it's probably not the most efficient way to support people, I think there's a big advantage in the flexibility of the system. Next to this all it is a nice example of a new Internet community which I use very often.
